My Place In The Field
For those of you wondering, I am not finished revising my manuscript. Not even close, actually. I have just started The New Chapter Nine– so named because it’s a whole new chapter–and I’ve still got miles to go before I sleep. But even though I’m Lost On The Green, I figured I might as well get back on the golf course and start hacking away at that ball.
In the rain. And the mud.
Just like that famous golfer from my favorite movie.
Junuh knew that if he had any chance of winning the match, he had to come to terms with his own personal demons.
And as a famous author once said:
It’s the journey that matters, not the destination.
I was too focused on the journey, not the destination. But In that journey, I’ll face my demons.
And that begins here.
I started this site because I believed I had something to say, and I wanted the freedom to say it without answering to anyone but myself–no professors, no peer critics, no editors. No reviewers writing about my work without ever having read it. No, not this time.
But I will say that this is the most extensive revision of a single manuscript that I have ever done. That is not an easy task to undertake when one is being “tested by adversity,” as director Robert Redford put it when discussing The Legend of Bagger Vance.
But no storm lasts forever. Once the gale hits land, the winds encounter resistance. And the storm starts to die. Run, and you give the wind less resistance. So the storm lasts longer.
Stand your ground against the gale, and, in the end, you will last longer than the storm.
While this is not quite the celebratory return I had hoped for–no flags of mine are flying–I am going to enjoy being on the green, searching for my place in the field.
But I hope you’ll enjoy my writing again.
The sleeping bear has woken.
My hibernation is over.

YES!! Been waiting too long…
Does this mean you’ll answer my e-mail from last Saturday??
BRING IT ON!!!!
I was thinking last night how I’ve not written for my book in far too long.
You have given me inspiration this morning…THANK YOU!
Alece:
Thanks!
Michelle:
Sent you an e-mail. Sorry for the length. Just…venting.
Tam:
Always good to see you over here. Heh. It’s tough, isn’t it? Sometimes, you’ve just got to “write on a whim” with whatever spare moment you have. My muse has run dry so now it’s more like a job than anything, but I’ll get there. Made it this far, right?
Hey there….cool blog! I’m praying for you and thanks for coming over. Chopped liver PHSAW…..LOL
I’m looking forward to MANY more entries in the future!!! Debs
Hey, thanks for stopping by, Debs. Always nice to see a new face around here. Heh.
My “chopped lver” comment was in reference to the endless, mostly meaningless debates that so many bloggers get so caught up in, and that I simply do not have the patience for these days. That is why I quoted Romans 14:1 & 4 over on your site.
I do have another Post that I am working on now; it’s mostly done, but there are a few more details that I want to add. It should be up on Sunday night or Monday night.
Well, take care. See you around the blogsphere!
see - you had JUST started your break when i wandered over here. and if i had been here in the past week i woulda read THIS and then woulda gotten back into keeping track of you.

see.
glad you are back.
Yeah. Heh. Funny how that works, isn’t it?
